Regional Gathering: Northeast

An Event for PEC members from across the Northeast in NYC

About the Gathering

Join us for a day of connection with folks from the Post-Evangelical Collective! Whether you are new to the PEC or have been engaged for years, we look forward to a day together in New York City.

Our time will center on relationship-building and spiritual exploration as we seek to collectively (re)imagine the future of life-giving, Jesus-centered spirituality. As individuals, as members of local communities, and as contributors to a broader movement, we will consider questions like: Who are we? What are we for? And what are we building?

We will have the opportunity to hear and respond to a talk from prominent Christian ethicist and PEC Wisdom Board member, Dr. David P. Gushee, who will share his perspective on the future of the post-evangelical movement; eat a delicious lunch together from Sahara’s Turkish Cuisine; and have lots of opportunities to get to know one another and connect over shared interests and questions.

It’s going to be a great day, and we can’t wait to spend it with you!

Sliding-Scale Ticket Model

We want all who are interested to be able to join the gathering, so we are selling tickets using a sliding-scale model. You may purchase a ticket for $50, $40, $30, $20, $10, $0, or a donation amount of your choice. Ticket fees will go toward covering the costs of coffee, pastries, lunch, supplies, and speaker fees. Thank you in advance for your generous support of the PEC and for helping us to make this an accessible event!

Featured Speaker

Dr. David P. Gushee is a leading Christian ethicist whose personal and academic transition away from traditional evangelicalism has made him a prominent voice in post-evangelical theology. As a Distinguished University Professor of Christian Ethics at Mercer University and a former Southern Baptist, his paradigm shifted significantly following his 2014 publication Changing Our Mind, where he announced his full theological support for LGBTQ+ inclusion. This pivotal moment led to his estrangement from traditional evangelical structures and inspired his landmark 2020 book, After Evangelicalism: The Path to a New Christianity. In his post-evangelical work, Dr. Gushee provides a theological roadmap for Christians who have left the evangelical subculture due to its political alignments and exclusionary doctrines, offering instead a reconstructed faith focused on a Jesus-centered ethic, human rights, and the defense of democracy.
